The year that was

This is the first Xmas in some time when I’ve been on the other side of the world, surrounded by colder weather, Gluhwein (mulled wine) and loads of amazing Christmas Markets. Somehow cold weather and Xmas just fit perfectly together, and even more so in Munich where I am right now.

Since I last wrote I got back from a fantastic time in Hayman Island (a place you couldn’t afford unless work was paying, thanks Vodafone and Hayden!), and a great World Clubs in Perth. I arrived back in London at 5am on a Monday morning late November, going from 30 degrees to around 10 and was working by 8am.

Since then I can’t recall being at home much at all. Lucky really since I decided to rent out my room before I left to Australia given the amount of travelling I knew I’d be undertaking which went like this:

Munich 21-24 Nov
Belgium 30 Nov- 4 Dec
London 5-6 Dec (offsite meeting)
Berlin 7-9 Dec
Paris 9-11 Dec
Munich 11-19 Dec

And now I’ve added
Sidmouth, UK 24-27 Dec (Family Xmas)
Berlin, 28 Dec-2 Jan 07 (Ultimate tourney and Nys party)

It’s been a year of real change, Northern vs Southern hemisphere experiences, and meeting and working with people from all over Europe. Beyond cool I have to say.

So I thought it apt for a quick summary of 2006, which has possibly been one of the best years of my life. I say possibly as who knows what the future years may bring ;)

These interesting facts for 2006 speak for themselves:

Flights taken: 35 flights (seems like more)
Kms Travelled with flights only: 89,756 kms
Days spent living out of a suitcase: Approximately 300 days!
Countries visited: 12 (Australia x 2, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Burma, Italy x 2, Germany x 6, Belgium x 2, Netherlands x 2, Sweden, France x 2) and yesterday I went to Austria for the first time.

Cheapest Accommodation: Chiang Rai, Thailand = $0.70
Most Expensive Accommodation: Junior Suite, Hotel Kepinski, Berlin (imagine at least 500 euros – but it was complimentary!)

Best drink: Caiparina
Best food: Too hard to make a call on
Best moment: Tubing down the river in Viang Veng, Laos with great friends, AND Paganello tournament, Italy.
Worst moment: Almost crashing at 90km on a scooter in Thailand on a blind corner (but also the most thrilling moment)

2006 was the year for kicks.
2007 is the year for? I'd appreciate any suggestions!

I can’t wait for next year, and I wish you all the success, fun, joy, and adventure that you can manage.

Take care, keep smiling and enjoy!

Love Nat (oh and don't forget the combined 30th birthday for Katy and me in Salvador, Brazil in February - you know you wouldn't want to be anywhere else at Carnival time!)
